About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Low Voltage Electrical Design Engineer. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of experience designing low voltage (LV) electrical distribution equipment, including switchboards, panelboards, or industrial control panels. Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D is required; experience with electrical design software such as AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN is a plus.

This role involves close collaboration with mechanical and production teams to ensure fully integrated, manufacturable electrical designs. The position also requires hands-on factory support, strong documentation practices, and participation in continuous improvement and product development initiatives.

Location:
This position is based on-site at our Addison, Illinois facility and requires presence in the factory five days per week to collaborate directly with production, mechanical, supply chain, and quality teams.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, review, and maintain low voltage electrical designs, including single-line diagrams, schematics, and wiring diagrams

  • Design and layout systems for switchboards, panelboards, and control panels, including device selection and circuit integration

  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers to ensure proper electrical-mechanical integration, including component layout, wire routing, and accessibility

  • Prepare, verify, and release Bills of Materials (BOMs) and submittal drawings for production and procurement

  • Provide hands-on factory floor support to troubleshooting wiring, connection, and design issues during assembly and testing

  • Ensure designs comply with UL standards, NEC requirements, customer specifications, and internal manufacturing capabilities

  • Support value engineering, cost reduction, and design standardization initiatives

  • Maintain accurate documentation, revision control, and drawing standards

  • Communicate effectively across cross-functional teams to ensure timely project execution and delivery


Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field

  • Minimum 2 years of experience with low voltage switchboards, panelboards, or control panel design

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D; experience with AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN preferred

  • Strong understanding of single-line diagrams, schematics, and wiring design for LV systems (≤ 600V)

  • Familiarity with LV components, including circuit breakers, busbars, relays, meters, and control devices

  • Working knowledge of UL standards (UL 891, UL 67, UL 508A) and applicable NEC codes

  • Understanding of busbar sizing, short-circuit ratings, and thermal considerations

  • Experience with protective device coordination and basic system design principles is a plus

  • Experience preparing and releasing BOMs and engineering documentation

  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and organizational ability

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment

  • Interest in continuous improvement and product development initiatives


Pay: $100,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
