About the Role
We are seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer to lead the development of advanced Energy Storage Systems (ESS) for residential and Commercial & Industrial (C&I) applications. This role requires deep expertise in power electronics, Li-ion battery systems, and system-level design, along with the ability to guide cross-functional teams from concept through production. The ideal candidate will serve as a technical leader and subject matter expert, driving innovation, reliability, and compliance across all stages of product development.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
System Design & Development
Design and review power electronics systems such as inverters, power converters, PV MPPT charge controllers, and bidirectional DC-DC converters
Define system architectures, power topologies, and key component selections including magnetics, semiconductors, and passive components.
Develop single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, schematics, and cable schedules
Establish grounding strategies, protection schemes, and isolation methods for high-power systems
Ensure compliance with UL, IEC, and IEEE standards relevant to power electronics and grid interconnection.
Participate in DFMEA, DVT and EVT/PVT activities for new product development.
Energy Storage & Equipment Integration
Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) on energy storage systems, including residential and C&I ESS applications
Apply strong knowledge of Li-ion battery technologies and Battery Management Systems (BMS)
Evaluate and analyze energy storage technologies, products, and vendors, support vendor selection and system implementation.
Equipment Specification & Integration
Develop or direct the creation of equipment specifications, procurement plans, and factory acceptance testing (FAT) for batteries, grid-tied inverters, battery enclosures, and related components
Ensure designs align with applicable safety and certification standards (UL 9540, UL 1973, and related frameworks)
Coordinate electrical design with mechanical layouts and enclosure constraints
Technical Analysis & Risk Management
Identify and mitigate electrical risks, including fault current, protection coordination, and thermal performance
Guide technical decisions through data-driven analysis and engineering trade-off evaluations
Diagnose product issues and propose effective, scalable solutions
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Collaborate closely with firmware, mechanical, manufacturing, and validation teams to ensure seamless product integration
Coordinate electrical designs with mechanical constraints and enclosure requirements
Support broader business functions including product strategy and customer engagement
Interface with clients, vendors, and external stakeholders as needed.
Support Design for Testability (DFT) and Design Verification Testing (DVT) initiatives early in the design phase.
Documentation & Lab Management
Maintain and continuously improve the lab’s test infrastructure, including test benches, instrumentation, load banks, battery cyclers, and environmental chambers, ensure calibration, and support validation testing.
Develop production-ready electrical documentation to support manufacturing and system integration
Leadership & Mentorship
Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to junior engineers
Lead and contribute to project planning, prioritization, and resource allocation
